BeerCo.au FOAMSTOP™ is a unique emulsion of an extremely effective surface active agent Dimethylpolysiloxane which prevents foam formation by reducing surface tension. The active ingredient is dimethylpolysiloxane. FOAMSTOP™ is a 30% active silicone (dimethylpolysiloxane) antifoam that is used in food and beverage manufacture.
FOAMSTOP™ Antifoam is classified as a “Processing Aid” because of its novel feature of being completely removed from the beer under normal processing conditions. It is adsorbed onto the surface of the yeast, vessel walls and filter media.
Analytical techniques accurate to 0.005 ppm cannot detect FOAMSTOP™ Antifoam in finished beer.
To be used as an antifoam agent during the wort boiling and fermentation step of the brewing process, the dose rate depends on brewing conditions, wort gravity, yeast cell counts and temperature. The ingredients of this product may settle. For best results, the closed package should be shaken vigorously before use.
- FOAMSTOP™ is a high-performance food grade antifoam for food processing and manufacturing use.
- FOAMSTOP™ is simply added to the solution that needs to be defoamed.
- FOAMSTOP™ can be added to the foaming mixture, baths, formulations or waste / process water either manually or with a dosing pump.
- Adjust the addition rate to optimise defoaming. FOAMSTOP™ may be diluted with water prior to use, but the diluted mixture will require agitation or circulation over time to stop separation. Mix well before use.
- FOAMSTOP™ is stable for 12 months when undiluted and stored below 30⁰C. Under FDA provision 21 CFR.δ 173.340 the silicone component can be added to a level of 10ppm, meaning FOAMSTOP™ can be used to a level of 33ppm.

Dosage and Usage Guidance:
Application rate: 1 – 6 mLs per hL (100 Litres)
The dosage calculation is as follows below. Please be aware that for food additive additions 10ppm of silicone is the maximum allowable dose according to Australian food safety. As the FOAMSTOP™ is 30% active it can be added at a max level of 30ppm.
CALCULATING ADDITION LEVEL
(PPM Silicone) x (Litres of Solution) / (% Active Silicone in Foamstop) x 10 = Amount of FOAMSTOP™ to be added in millilitres
Example:
10 ppm silicone (FOAMSTOP™ max allowable addition rate) x 1,000 L (litres of solution) divided by 30% actives in FOAMSTOP™ x 10
10,000 / 300 = 33 mls.
For home brewing and distilling applications:
10 x 25 litres / 300 = 0.83 mls (~1mL) per 25L beer wash
This is a starting point and would need to be verified for individual applications.

“HIGH FOAM” FACTORS
1. High Wort Solids
Large amounts of trub adsorb FOAMSTOP™ Antifoam and may reduce its effect.
2. Strong Head-Forming Yeast
Some yeast strains produce a much more stable foam in the fermenter.
3. Fermenter Design
Tall narrow fermenters are likely to produce a greater depth of foam.
4. High Temperature Fermentation
Faster evolution of CO2 produces more foam.
5. High Gravity Fermentation
High wort viscosity produces a more persistent foam.
6. Low Back Pressure
7. High Rates of Aeration
