1st Life:
These barrels started their life as Oloroso and Cream Sherry and Pedro Ximénez barrels in the world-famous wine-growing region of Jerez, Spain which is situated in a triangle of land formed by the towns of Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlúcar de Barrameda and El Puerto de Santa María where they held fortified wine for many years.
Oloroso sherry casks are highly sought after by the whisky industry. It adds a lot of richness when spirits are matured in casks that were seasoned with Oloroso.
Cream sherry is a semi sweet wine which is obtained exclusively from oxidative ageing and involves blending the Oloroso (in what is known as cabeceo) with an amount of Pedro Ximénez, hence it being commonly known as Sweet Oloroso.
Classic Pedro Ximénez will display aromas and flavours of raisins, dates and dried figs, often combined with a spicy note and chocolate.
2nd Life:
In their second life, they were coopered down to 50 Litre Barrels by the Tasmanian Tiger Cooperage and used to hold and mature some of the country’s most celebrated Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky for several years.
3rd Life:
These barrels are now looking for their 3rd home at your home or brewery or distillery. These barrels are known as 1st Fills in the Industry and would have two more spirit fills or serve as excellent barrels for Big Bold Clean Beers like Stouts and Porters or Sour Beers or Meads.

These barrels have spent their 2nd life at a highly awarded premium Tasmanian whisky distillery. Their logos have not been shaved from the barrels and under no circumstances are customers allowed to leverage or use the former distillers name in the marketing of their own beverages should you be a commercial brewery or distillery who is keen to use these barrels. By all means you are allowed store your beer or spirit or cider or mead in these barrels and give them a generous 3rd life and your allowed to market the barrels origin story and history of life but you are NOT ALLOWED to mention any Brand or Distillery that formerly housed these wonderful oak barrels.
